How do you manage one crisis after another?

The exhibition DER GOLDENE KÄFIG / THE GOLDEN CAGE compares positions of the art to perspectives of philosophy, the financial world and the cultural and media studies, questioning their reflection on political decisions, social visions and utopias.

The focus is on representations of money – like desire power over a medium of exchange to the virtual numbers on the monitor - and the resulting questions about lifestyles and value systems appropriate as well as the role of art and creativity in this context.

Thousands of years, money was coined gold and silver and seemed a magic spell. But especially in the presence of its virtual form is gaining importance, credit can hardly think away from any area of life. Mainly trade in the form of buying and selling is associated by "money", but the value-neutral term money gives in its dimensions with ‘a lot' or 'no', and for that reason ‘wealth' or 'poverty' such reactions like ‘envy' ‘compassion' or 'hate'. Will you therefore describe the ratio of people to their money; a universe of moral qualities will be opened, which represents not only the relationship of the individual, but a zeitgeist.

In the early 21 Century the globalized independently operating in money market shows as repressive and as the creator of the most shortcomings. The now daily in the media flaunted inability of state control, former guarantor of economic stability and reliability, is creating political uncertainty. Moreover the credibility of capital markets, banks and credit institutions dwindles, the activities of their managers and the market players and speculators are perceived to be counter-productive or even nihilistic.

But how does the art apprehends current questions of the social, environmental and ethical system change?

With special thanks to Collection Haupt for providing of collection exhibits for the show

Despite sustained financial crisis and its devastating impact on private sectors and all government budgets and systems the globalized financial industry produces uncontrollable amounts of money. Hardly bothered or prosecuted it creates opaque and risky transactions while not only virtual results cause a decline in values, but the real world.
