Lothar Franz The talk will be in German Overview The Bonner Luftsportverein was founded in 1906 and is one of the oldest sports societies engaged in aviation in Germany. It started with balloon trips. But soon “flying machines” became matters of interest. In 1909, only thirteen years after the death of Otto Lilienthal and 6 years after the Wrigth Brothers Fritz Pullig flew a “machine” in Hangelar. It is astonishing how deeply pilots and technical designers in Bonn were involved in the development of aviation. Names like Liesel Bach, Albert Falderbaum, Gerhard Fieseler, Hermann Landmann, Reimar und Walter Horten, Siegfried Ruff and Alfons Pützer are known internationally, their achievements were acknowledged by distinctive awards. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lothar Franz has been flying for 56 years and has been President of the Bonner Luftsportverein for 16 years.
